USEFUL TIPS TO KEEP YOUR DOG TICK-FREE THIS MONSOON

Useful Tips To Keep Your Dog Tick-Free This Monsoon

"Oh, your dog is well trained; it protects you well!" But do you protect your Dog well enough?

Hygiene is as essential for dogs as it is for you (even more so), especially during monsoon season. As dog parents, you must ensure your pup is happy and healthy. No one would like to see their pet in a state where their pup's fun is interrupted by constant itch and irritation caused by those parasites living on them. This article will help you get rid of whatever is ticking your pet!

Ticks and fleas are one of many significant concerns of dog parents. Fleas and ticks are typical bugs that cause pesky bites and can transmit diseases to your pet, causing discomfort and health problems for your furry friends (or you!). These are some pests you do not want to see around your pets. As warm and snuggly as your pets might be to you, their soft furry coat also provides a great place and hiding area for these nasty bugs.

When it comes to protecting your Dog from fleas and ticks, prevention is always better and much more convenient than finding a cure. Here are some ways to protect our furry friends from ticks and fleas in the monsoon season.

PREVENTION-
Groom your pet
Make your pet feel like the royalty that they are! Ensure you spend quality time with your pet by maintaining dog hygiene. Combing, brushing, and regularly cleaning your Dog's coat will keep them clean and help you keep an eye for any external parasites that may be hiding under your pet's haircoat.
What's in your yard?
While ticks like high grass, fleas prefer warm, moist breeding areas. And yards or dog parks are a perfect place for that. If you have a yard, mow it regularly year-round, especially during the rainy season, to prevent breeding bugs. It gives you a well-maintained yard along with a flea-protected pooch.
Checks and Check-ups
Regular tick/flea check on your furry friend might help you detect ticks or fleas on their coat. It will help you eliminate these bugs before transmitting any disease to your pet. Regular check-ups from the veterinarian help as well! Inspection is essential after any outdoor activity.
Anti-tick Products
During the Monsoons, it is mandatory to keep anti-tick powders, shampoos, and sprays handy. You will have to turn to them now and then. Whenever you take them out for walks, spray them with anti-tick sprays. While they are happily playing in the garden, you can apply tick-free powder to protect them from being attacked by ticks or fleas during play. Bathe them with anti-tick shampoos once weekly to eliminate any latched ticks.

Here's where you should check for ticks-
• In and around the ears
• Corner of the lips
• Eyelids
• Under the collar
• Behind legs, elbows, and Armpits
• Between the toes and paws
• Groin area
• Up and down the tail

MEASURES AND CURES-
Natural treatment (tick repellent- homemade)
Several homemade remedies can get ticks and fleas off your pet. If your Dog doesn't mind a spray bottle, dilute a few drops of your chosen essential oil into 300ml-400ml of water and spray directly onto your Dog's coat. Homemade tick/flea spray can be made using vinegar as well. (Fact- Peppermint naturally repels fleas, use it to your advantage.) Ensure your Dog isn't allergic to anything you use or apply on them. It is best to consult a veterinarian who might suggest easier or better ways of tick protection.

Medical treatment
There are various ways to get rid of ticks, like spot-on treatments, tablets, and medicated dog tick collars. Veterinarians suggest chewable tablets, tick-repellent, anti-tick shampoos, anti-tick powder, and sprays to get rid of ticks or fleas. Some products protect against fleas only, while others protect against ticks and fleas and may protect against additional parasites, as your pet's vet suggested.
Watch the Play Partner
Recent contact with another pet or stray Dog can become a cause of tick or flea infestation, so it's essential to check their furry coats and look out for them. If you have spotted a tick on your pet, it is best to use a tweezer to remove the entirety of it from as close to your pet's skin as possible. Monitor their behavior once you've taken a tick or flea off your pup. It will help you detect signs or symptoms if ticks or fleas have infected your Dog. Check for swollen joints, limping, laziness, or loss of appetite.

Though not every tick bite transmits a disease, it's a good idea to discuss the case with the veterinarian or alert them that your pet has been bitten. This way, you can keep ticks away from this monsoon!
Your pet deserves all the love and good health in the world, so make sure to help and protect your furry goofball and support them through the treatment with care.
