The Aquariums not only adds beauty to the house but also add
a splash of the color with the help of colorful fish swimming freely there.
However as it is a different atmosphere altogether the aquariums can easily get
contaminated.
Some of the major reasons of contamination include:
Household cleaners, deodorants and oven cleaners. The activities like painting
also release high level of chemicals that can settle down on tee aquarium.
Here are some of the ways in which one can decontaminate the
aquarium:
Chemical Conditioners
One of the most widely used and acceptable means of
preventing aquarium contamination is the use of chemical conditioners. These
chemicals instantly react with the contamination agents and detoxify chlorine.
They can also work acutely on heavy metal presence in the water. Because of
their chemical characteristics these chemicals can instantly break the
composition of the elements responsible for contaminating the aquarium.
Physical Removal
Another way of detoxifying the aquarium water is by aerating
the water using a stone and an air pump. This procedure will efficiently
dissipate the chlorine from the water. However the process fails to remove the
heavy metal presence in the water. So it can only be used with the water that
is free of heavy metal presence. Due to its limitation the process is not
widely used.
Water Purification
This is the most effective way of ensuring the toxin free
aquarium water. This process not only works on metals and toxins but also works
effectively on a wide range of other impurities that affects the natural
composition and purity levels of the water. Two most commonly used water
purifiers are:
DI (De-Ionization): This kind of water
purification De-ionizes the water and is generally preferred by the budget
conscious people as it is modestly priced. It removes the chlorine from the
water and also works effectively on the other impurities that can either
contaminate the water or have the potential to contaminate it in the near
future. Though these units are priced modestly, the frequent cartridge changes
it requires augments the cost of usage especially for large aquariums.
Reverse Osmosis (RO): This
purification is widely trusted for its efficiency, ease of use, low maintenance
and long term effect. The intensity of its effect keeps most of the heavy
metals, impurities and toxins at bay. One of the main advantage of RO that
gives it a distinct importance is because of its wide effects on the water. For
higher effect one can combine DI and RO Purification units.
Conclusion
Being filled with water, aquariums can get contaminated
quite easily. The best way to prevent the contamination is to avoid using the
items like glass cleaner, air freshener, and perfumed scents near the aquarium.
If contaminated there are several ways to decontaminate the water but for the
best effect it is recommendable to use either chemical conditioners for small
to mid sized aquariums while using De-Ionization and reverse Osmosis are the
best methods of decontaminating your aquarium.
