There are plenty of Indian dog breeds available in the market, however, not many people are aware of them. Indian dog breeds are being adopted in many countries for different purposes. Indian dogs are known to be both soft and ferocious in nature, as most of the breeds are known for their hunting skills in the forests and estates.

1. Mudhol Hound



Mudhol hound is also called as caravan hound. Caravan hounds are also known for their loyal nature, which are available widely in northern Karnataka and Maharashtra border. Mudhol hounds are widely used for hunting games, as they have great speed and reflex skill sets. Estate owners and country farmers prefer to use these breeds, as they can work hard compared to any other breeds in the world. They are not friendly with strangers, but their temperament is elegant, loyal and courageous.

2. Rampur Hound



Rampur hound is also known as greyhound in some parts of the world. Rampur hound is basically an Indian breed, which has its roots from a village called Rampur, which is located between New Delhi and Bareily. Rampur Hound looks similar to Mudhol hound and carries similar characteristics in most of the activities. Rampur Hound was used by Maharajas for hunting in the northern part of India and acts courageously against wild animals in the forests. Rampur hound carries a great amount of stamina and strength and can work harder in fields and games. Rampur hounds are pretty intelligent than Mudhol hounds, but less ferocious to strangers.

4. Himalayan Mastiff



Himalayan Mastiff is also called as a Himalayan guard dog, which are commonly available in the Himalayan region. This breed cannot tolerate hot or warm environment and could easily fall sick. Himalayan Mastiffs can be ferocious and are known to fight to the death. 5. Rajapalayam

Rajapalayam is a hound and needs wide and open spaces to survive, as it is powerful and active enough to walk or run around. Most of the Rajapalayam dogs are used by Royal Family in the southern part of India to hunt wild boars. These breeds are adopted by many estate owners from different parts of the world. Rajapalayam breeds should be handled by one person, as they are not friendly with strangers.
