Labrador Dog Breed Information

The Labrador retriever is known as a friendly companion as well as a useful worker. Right from assisting its owners in fetching fish and retrieving it to helping the handicapped people to overcome their limitations, the dog dons many caps. It also plays a key role in search and rescue operations due to its high intelligence and snuffing skills.



Appearance

These dogs are medium in length and weight between 29 and 36 KG (males) and 25 to 32 KG (females). The healthy dogs generally weigh more than average canine breeds, however the dogs weighing as much as 45 KG cannot be considered. It rather needs to loose lots of weight. Conformation and Field. Conformation dogs are medium sized dogs that are shorter. They have large full face and are much calmer as compared to field dogs. The field dogs on the other hand are tall and light framed. Their faces are not as broad as com and the nose are slightly long. However the field Labradors with the heads, long legs and lanky frames are considered to be unhealthy. The breed that is common to Asia is Australian Stock and they go along very well with the children.

Coat

Their coat is short but dense. A healthy dog's coat is water resistant. Black Yellow and Chocolate color are common coat colors.

Head

They have broad head with slightly expressive eyebrows. Their eyes are expressive and generally sport the colors like brown and hazel.

Jaws

Its Jaws are powerful and strong the medium length muzzle is not too tapered. The jaws hand slightly and curve back.

Body

They are muscular dogs with powerful body.

Character

They are known as gentle dogs and characterize by fearlessness. They are quite friendly but at times that might become a bit problematic especially during training. However they extremely understand and can be instantly disciplined with a slight shouting. They make very less noise and are reputed as gentleman's dog.

The Labrador dogs are known for their friendliness and companionship. They are good for physically fit as well as handicapped people. They get along very well with children and even acquaint themselves with the guests. They require a good amount of food everyday so that might not be a best choice for people belonging to lower middle income group. As they are extremely friendly and trust anyone who pat their head. They are definitely not a good choice for a guard dog. They are notorious for their gladness and require a good amount of food every day. They are great for the handicapped people who want a close companion.
